Our Staff
Michael Martin has been (interim) director since Sept. 2010 and came here from Ft. Hood, Texas. He is a graduate of the University of North Texas (B.A.in psychology and M.Ed.) and Dallas Theological Seminary (MA Biblical Studies, 1993). He is a missionary with Cadence, International.
Past employment has included police work Arlington, TX, followed by inner-city ministry in San Antonio, TX and tent making through teaching in Korea (1994--2002). Michael enjoys bike riding, the gym, watching mixed martial arts, phone calls home and meat loaf (with that universal solvent, Hunt's ketchup). His favorite authors include Tom Nelson, Ravi Zacharias, GK Chesterton, J. Budziszewski and RC Sproul. He is a longtime fan of Andy of Mayberry.
He purposely avoids wearing anything that doesn't go with jeans, eating anything hotter than onion rings and always stops to pet the dogs of strangers (except poodles, daschands, and chihuahuas). He doesn't eat them, either.
David DeJong came to the Shalom House in December 2010 for a one year assignment. David grew up in Albuquerque, NM where he graduated from technical college before attending Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. After graduating Moody, David returned to New Mexico where he worked as an electronic technician for a couple of years. During this time, he was active in the New Mexico wilderness search-and-rescue community.
David enjoys various outdoor activities, particularly mountain biking and hiking/snowshoeing. His passion is to encourage people in their (Christian) faith and to make Christ known.

Michael Martin, the Director of Shalom House, is a former Marine ('71-'75) from Denton, TX who loves to "see the light come on" when young men and women enter into the joy of discovery that there is a God who has spoken clearly in the Bible and who speaks to the whole individual - heart, soul, mind and strength.
